Theo Lucas Kingsley Monk: |
| Our beautiful boy | |
![]() Immediately following Theo's death friends wanted to donate money in his memory. I also wanted to find a way of keeping his memory alive and potentially benefiting others from any lessons from his life. My friend Claire who sells Usborne Books volunteered that she had a jar of pennies that she used when people wished to donate their penny change from the purchase of a book. Claire nominated the British Heart Foundation in Theo's honour. I looked on the website of the British Heart Foundation and found that they have Gift of Hope Heart Funds which can be set up in the name of a loved one. This was perfect. It allowed me to do something in Theo's name very quickly and was potentially benefiting others. It was also a recognised charity and so people would be “comfortable” in raising funds in this way. Very quickly we raised over £2000! This was from the money donated from friends and family immediately following Theo's death. The fund was also boosted greatly by the proceeds from the sale of Christmas cards at Alexander's school: £1007!! At the start of 2009 I felt very depressed. Reg identified the root cause. This was the first year without our beautiful boy. I decided to do something to overcome this feeling of dread. I pledged to raise the total in Theo's Gift of Hope Fund to £5000. In effect this meant raising about £2600 in 2009. I thought that having a programme of events would give me as purpose. It has done. Thanks to the infinite support of our wonderful friends, we have come up with a diverse programme of fun things. The highlight is a concert to commemorate Theo's birthday in June: a birthday he will always share with his Daddy. Theo's Gift of Hope Fund can be found on the British Heart Foundation website: Click here to go directly to Theo's page. I hope this website is informative and useful to others.
